Plant-Based Versus Vegan

Being plant-based and being vegan are two very different things. Many fashionistas, stay plant-based in order to stay on trend with leather, fur, etc. In order to be a true vegan, you'll have to stay away from many major brands, who continue to use animal by-products in their clothes and accessories.

What is plant-based?

Being on a plant-based diet means that you do not consume anything that would be an animal by-product. This includes eggs, meat, dairy, gelatin, honey, etc. This is a diet and NOT a lifestyle.

What is a vegan lifestyle?

Being vegan is to use no products that were created using any animal by-products. This includes shampoo, food, clothes, everything you use. This is a lifestyle versus a diet. The people who fall into this lifestyle are more than likely to be animal activists.

Free People offers an alternative to your favorite leather jacket. With their "vegan leather," there's no cruelty involved. The jacket doesn't scream "pleather" leather either. It's of high quality creating an intense competition with authentic leather jackets (not to mention it's half the cost!).

It sounds difficult to make this transition because it is! The diet is only the simple part. To be a true vegan, your life starts to live for those tortured animals. Is it practical? It can be, through a gradual transition.

Being a vegan has become very critical, those who look to become a vegan can feel guilty for not being able to afford and replace their current purses and shoes. The effort is what matters! Being able to accept your situation and use your new ethics to make future purchases is what truly matters. Not anyone's opinion should change the impact you want to begin to make.

Beginning to search for vegan products everywhere can be difficult. If a mistake is made it doesn't eliminate your goal, and it's a part of the learning process. There are many things you are going to learn, such as how many vitamins use gelatin. Or, how many makeup brands test on animals.
